Work on a scheme to transform Market Place in Shepshed will get underway this month.
The Council will be creating a more open and more pedestrian-friendly space while increasing parking in the area for shoppers.
The improvements have been developed with Shepshed Town Council and Shepshed Town Team and are being funded by the borough council plus grants from LLEP and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Andy said “It sometimes still feels strange doing these 'Photo Opps' still. But it was good to be back in #Shpeshed to see what the new scheme can bring. Of course this is only a small start to what needs to be done in the area. But putting pride in place is an important part of this regeneration journey. There are still many more projects that need funding in a place like Shepshed and across Leicestershire. They include health, education, play, green space, cycle ways, leisure, community spaces etc. The cost will be enormous. But the cost of allowing our public realm and place to decline is even greater.
Our partnerships with the local authorities becomes increasingly important as the devolution debate continues to progress in Leicestershire. On the same day I was able to sign off another investment in our Enterprise Zones hopefully securing hundreds more jobs. There is still so much still to do!”
